Please help support Mike & Zoe while their son Barnaby undergoes treatment for an aggressive form of brain cancer.

Christchurch, Canterbury

Barnaby, our precious wee boy, he turns 3 in a few weeks, he loves cars, planes, spotting cats in the neighbourhood while we are out for a walk, his balance bike, his dog and his family. He is the sweetest natured wee man, who is capable of very big things and we are all in awe of him every moment of every day. And he was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive brain tumour just over a month ago. Since diagnosis he has undergone a lengthy surgery to remove the tumour from his brain, this looks to have been largely successful for now, with one small part to be queried again after his first two rounds of Chemo are done. We have finished round one. He is receiving quite high doses of Chemo and stem cell transplantation for approximately 6 months before we eventually look at radiation, an impossible situation for most, yet he is not even 3. Everyday our hearts break for what we have to put our son through, our hero doesn't fly through the sky or stop burglars, our hero lies in a hospital bed receiving life saving and life altering medications before he has even had the chance to start Kindy. This brave wee boy who has no idea of the weight on his shoulders, and he won't know, because everyday we will continue to play and watch movies and let him eat whatever he likes so that he can be as much of a kid as is humanly possible right now. So that in a years time, we can see him run thoughtlessly through a field with not a care in the world again.

We hold that day very close to our hearts our dear son 💜

Since surgery Barnaby has been re-learning a lot, as the surgery was done in the part of his brain that controls things like balance, he has been learning to walk again, prior to Chemo starting he was able to ride his trike around reasonably well as both wheels helped him to be balanced. Chemo has definitely knocked him around a bit, but we hope to see our boy eager to ride his trike again soon.

Our Shining Star  6 February 2022

Posted by: Zoe Langford

Barnaby, our absolute shining star. Since our last update we have gone through a lot. We had a midway on protocol MRI that showed a new lesion on his brain. While at first this was absolutely terrifying, I have been busy gaining second opinions, and other medical professionals in Australasia have done the same. And we now look to be in a better place! Some arent convinced it was Cancer and many agree it looked too odd to be metastases. But as it was in a dodgy spot for surgery, it wasn't worth the risk of paralysis to find out.

End of protocol scans have told us that whatever it is, is stable! We have had a stable MRI, a negative lumbar puncture and a clear PET scan! Yay! This puts us in a great spot at the moment and we are cleared to start radiation in coming weeks. We were attempting to get overseas for Proton and are still waiting on the final word for Govt. Funding for this but chances are we will be doing Photon in New Zealand. The Delta variant of Covid is much easier to avoid on our own doorstep and its a bit scary for what that could do to him if he were to catch it at the airport or in the US.

Barnaby is doing amazingly at home, he has been learning how to walk again, absolutely loves playing with his Marble runs and is obsessed with Crash Bandicoot at the moment 😅 he is a very happy wee man and we are beyond thrilled that he is doing so well.

We LOVE you Boogie! ❤️❤️❤️
