The Basement Schools Programme is a fully subsidized initiative that connects grassroots theatre makers with young audiences
Auckland
The Basement believes that every young person in Aotearoa should have access to the life changing impact of the arts.
While the schools in our programme come from all over Auckland what they have in common, besides amazing kids and dedicated teachers, is limited access to the resources that other schools enjoy.
The Basement Schools Programme (Te Ara Ki Angitu - The pathway to opportunity) provides our partner schools with tickets to shows at our venue, transport to and from our space, a touring show that visits each school, workshops with artists and education packs so students can respond to what they have seen in their schoolwork.
All at no cost to the student or their school.
Through this programme students experience professional, intimate arts experiences in a year-long wraparound programme that is unique in New Zealand.
The Basement Theatre is nationally recognised as New Zealand's premiere development space for emerging performing artists. We work to encourage the growth of our artists and to delight, challenge and inspire our audiences.
The funds will be used to cover transport costs, artist fees, and the creation of education packs.
