Help us to raise funds to improve the catastrophic living conditions of this remote and isolated community in Western Cambodia.
Auckland
In Bech Khlok, one of the many isolated villages in Western Cambodia, the community has no access to clean water, no power, no sanitation and minimal medical care. The only school has just two classrooms for the 140 pupils and is in a desperate condition. The teaching materials consists only of two broken blackboards, some chalk and most of the kids have neither pencil nor paper.
As result of the contaminated water source, the families here rarely live without illness. Their children don't know a day without stomach ache, diarrhea and are never free from parasites (worldwide 10'000 people die daily from waterborne diseases. Half of them are children below 5 years of age).
With the lack of education and work opportunities, many of the older children are exposed to trafficking and exploitation, being forced to work illegally in Thailand.
With the raised funds, we will address facility issues such as fresh water supply, solid floors, proper walls and sanitation.
In a second phase, and depending on available funds, we will work with the community to improve hygiene and sanitation and introduce water filters and rainwater tanks in conjunction with training and education.
Long-term, we will encourage and facilitate good education, and than connect the students with vocational training and work opportunities.
I am the founder of Seed of Small Beginnings, a small charitable trust, which is dedicated to changing lives in Cambodia through creating sustainable communities. I heard about the hard living conditions of the people in Bech Khlok from a young Cambodian teacher called Heang. He helped the school of Bech Khlok by selling self-made paper lanterns to raise money for books and pencils. We visited Bech Khlok several times together with him and met with the village chief, villagers and teachers to clarify the needs of the school and the community.
100% of the raised funds goes directly to the project!
