Canterbury
So.. I decided to tick another item from my bucket list. Most of my friends as I know them would react “Oh dear, what now…” Somehow they got used to the fact that most of my super exciting ideas are also pretty crazy. And this one will be far more challenging that any of the previous ones. I guess.
Last week I heard that a nurse with a pacemaker finished a run across the whole NZ in just 57 days!! I’ll repeat again - with a PACEMAKER. What an amazing accomplishment!
But not all of us are as lucky as she is. Or as I am (because I don’t need any pacemaker)..
A friend of mine who I met during the past season working together in a ski field is not that lucky. Her little 13 year old boy is waiting for a heart transplant because his heart, even though supported with a pacemaker, is not strong enough to handle “normal” situations. I mean normal for us, the lucky healthy people. Imagine feeling so exhausted after spending 15 minutes shopping in a supermarket so you have to sleep for the rest of the day.. Not fun, right..
So I decided to make this call of walking the South Island of New Zealand and raising money for Becky and her family. She decided to split the money in half and donate the half to the Heart Kids Canterbury Charity. This charity supports families in a similar situation like Becky’s and also helps them organize fast transport to Auckland in case of that desired phone call that there is a suitable heart for their child.
