We believe the children of one-parent families share a 'birthright' with all of the children in New Zealand: the right to a good start in life, help in times of crisis, and an opportunity to reach their potential.
We at Birthright Hutt Valley aim to provide single parent whanau with the practical and emotional support that allows their children to thrive and reach their potential. This includes providing home-based social work support, parenting advice, information on available financial aid, resource assistance such as clothing for children and household items, as well as advocacy for WINZ and other child/family services.
Where $13,000 will employ a social worker part-time, an individual contribution of $250 could allow a social worker to reach three more families, and even $50 would go a long way towards working with an additional family.
About us
Birthright Hutt Valley's mission is to support, strengthen and advocate for whanau led by one person. We believe the children of such families share a 'birthright' with all of the children in New Zealand: the right to reach their full potential.
Use of funds
Our social workers are currently stretched to their limits in trying to support the increasing demand from the community. Your support will allow us to employ a social worker, who will provide support for an additional 20 families a week.
