Getting this boat will set up this family for life - this boat will provide stable income for a growing family of 7+ adults & 13+ children!
Waikato
My name is Cassia and my husband Nico (Nicholsen) is from Vanuatu, and we have a beautiful wee boy Kailel.
Nico's family live on an island called Malo without the option of permanent, full time work available, and our heart is to give them something that will make this happen. By providing them with a boat, they will be able to do 2 things - firstly provide transport to Luganville on the main island of Espirito Santo, and secondly they can use the boat to fish and then sell the fish. This should provide the family with at least 3 full time incomes that will supply enough for the whole family to eat, have funds for the children's education, and start building up decent living conditions. (they currently have no running water or power). These jobs will create a surplus over and above wages that will be used for insurance, maintenance and petrol for the boat and enough for savings should an emergency arise. And we hope that it will eventually be enough to buy a ute which will create another job for the family. Nico has put together a business plan with costing from over there, and all the essential items needed, and the cost will be around $20000 which should we raise more, we will put the excess towards a ute. *UPDATE - WE HAVE RAISED $5000 PRIVATELY SO NEW TARGET IS $15000* We have some saved towards this as well, but we have a wee family now so will not be able to get to our goal as quickly as we had hoped, and will use our funds for unexpected costs that usually arise and for Nico to go over and get everything set up.
(The photo is taken at our 2nd small wedding that we held with the family at their home in Malo - not all the children are in the photo)
Im involved because this is my husbands family which makes them my family! We cannot afford to support them financially, and believe it is better that they have something they can do to support themselves and their family but they still need the initial funding to do this - which will take us a long time to put together...
Buy a fishing/transport boat, motor, life jackets and insurance. (please note this is a 'banana' boat commonly used in Vanuatu, and not the sort of boats you find in NZ) if more then $20000 is raised then we will put that towards the purchase of a ute.
Thank you!!! 8 February 2018
Hi Everyone who gave via the givealittle page.
Thank you SO much again for your donation. We raised $20k by the end of November and so went over end of December for 2 weeks to get everything sorted.
The boat is on order and will be ready in another 2-4 months times and includes the fishing gear etc and we had enough left over for a 44 gallon petrol tank, spear guns and we are hopeful to find somewhere who will insure boats...
My husbands family is SO excited and grateful and I was able to sit down with them and go over a budget - something they had never been taught or considered and they are excited about the potential in this too.
3 full time jobs have been created as well as another brother looking after the finances which I don't believe will be full time but will fit in well with his other work.
The other super exciting thing for Nico and I is that in 2017 NZ world Vision had been on the island getting water from the top down and setting up taps to many of the villages. RUNNING WATER :D
One of my brothers (in law) was a key helper in this and because of it, was able to get a tap of running water to the family village!!!!! What an amazing blessing! So that was so lovely to see when we went there.
So now we wait for the boat to be made and have left lots of instructions for the family to get it all sorted when its made.
We are SO grateful and SO happy for them too.
Thanks again!
Love and blessings
Nico and Cassia Isaiah
