Bowen House Exhibition Fundraiser

$725 of $7,500 goal

Help out nine White Room Creative Space artists to exhibit their work in Parliament's Bowen House exhibition space.

Canterbury

The White Room Creative Space has been chosen to exhibit in Parliament's Bowen House Exhibition space. The artwork of nine artists (see photo) will be part of this exhibition.

It features work by artists that will show you how they see the world from their perspective. It is a world where judgement is often left at the door and instead a wealth of intuition and spontaneous expression remains. The artists see, think and feel in ways that are not bound by convention. This leads to art that is engaging, funny, quirky and surprising.

Our aim is to raise funds for the work of the nine artists to be made ready and sent up for the exhibition. Also, for the artists to attend the opening and see the show in Parliament's Bowen House, in Wellington.

The White Room Creative Space was developed in response to a growing need to support and develop the creative talent of people supported by SkillWise. It is well documented that bringing disabled and non-disabled artists together as a creative community, united by a shared passion for art, breaks down barriers. Through this people are seen and responded to as artists first rather than people with disabilities. This encourages an inclusive community where people with an intellectual disability are not isolated. In turn, this helps change preconceived attitudes towards people with disabilities.

About us

SkillWise works in partnership with over 220 people who have intellectual disabilities, their families and whanau. We aim to work with and empower each person to feel valued as a fully participating citizen through work, education and having fun!

Use of funds

Our aim is to raise funds for the work of the nine artists to be made ready and sent up for the exhibition. Also, for the artists to attend the opening night and see the show in Parliament's Bowen House, in Wellington.

We're going to Wellington!  21 October 2020

Thank you for all your donations and support! With your generous donations, a generous funding grant from the Mackenzie Charitable Foundation, a great Quiz Night night fundraiser and Michelle's amazing hard work fundraising by making and selling face masks. We have hit our fundraising goal and we are off to Wellington in November!

Again, thank you for all your support, it will be an amazing experience for the artists going on the trip to be able to see their work being exhibited at Bowen House and maybe meet the odd politician or two!
