Support Brad in His Battle Against Leukaemia
Auckland
Two years ago, our father, Brad, displayed immense strength when he underwent a double organ transplant (kidney and liver) due to a genetic condition. Since then, he’s faced ongoing health struggles, and recently, he was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. Doctors estimate he has 12–24 months to live, but there is hope. Brad is set to begin a chemotherapy called Venetoclax, which costs $2,700 per month and isn’t funded by the government.
A lifelong Aston Villa Football Club fan, Brad is also a retired Merchant Navy Seaman, having served on four ships. He has raised thousands for charities like the Cancer Society, Brain Injury New Zealand, and Mencap UK. As a civilian first responder, Brad has selflessly helped at car crashes, cardiac events, and sudden deaths, often arriving before emergency services.
Brad is a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather, and his family is hoping this treatment will extend his life, giving us more precious time together.
After his transplant, Brad used his life savings and KiwiSaver to support himself and his wife, Janice. Since then, Janice has had to stop working to care for him full-time, putting the family in a difficult financial situation.
Any support you can offer will directly contribute to his treatment costs and help with rent, bills, and daily expenses. Your kindness will provide invaluable relief during this challenging time, and we are deeply grateful for your help.
Thank you—every bit truly makes a difference.
Hayden and Brad (Jnr) are Brad’s sons
Any support you can offer would mean the world to our family. The funds raised will go directly towards covering the cost of Brad’s treatment (Venetoclax), as well as helping with rent, bills, and daily necessities.
First update on Chemotherapy 17 January 2025
Dad has had his first round of Chemo, and after 14 days in hospital is now home. There were a few complications and a bit of a stop start due to fevers and an infection, but after being given great care by the team at Middlemore Hospital OK.
We've been boosted by the love and financial support shown already, but the battle is going to be hard and long with daily treatments and test for not only the Leukaemia but also ensuring his transplant organs are still healthy.
Rosemary & Mark thank you for supporting our dad's cause, best wishes Janice, Bradley & Hayden
