Bridging the Gap in Our Communities

We want to see poverty diminished and visualize a future where we all have access to basic needs to thrive and lead a positive life.

Wellington

We're two women (yes, that's us in the great photo) who want to make a positive impact for our local community. We're aiming to provide self-care packages to girls and young women who regularly go without the basic necessities that for many of us, are common everyday items.

These basic necessities make a big difference in how we feel and can interact in society. Many girls and young women across our communities miss out on education and employment opportunities, avoid social connections, shy away from the outside world and are driven to unhygienic alternatives.

Your donation supports us to provide packages that contain items such as: toothbrush, comb, pads/tampons/menstrual cups, deodorant and soap.

100% of your contribution helps purchase these products that fill the packages and are distributed to girls and young women in need.

This is our first step and initiative towards making a difference that brings real change to benefit our whole community. As we progress we aim to provide support in other fundamental areas that close the gap on poverty.

Your support helps girls and young women feel dignified and provides support to continued access to education/employment opportunities and social support networks.

Ngā Mihi Ki a Koutou - Thank You  17 January 2019

In 2018 an idea sparked over a coffee between two friends. From this idea, a fundraiser was created, and wheels were set in motion to provide hygiene care packages.

Through your generosity and compassion for our community’s girls and young women we raised $2535 and were able to donate nearly 400 packages to low-decile schools and their students in need.

The packages contained a toothbrush, toothpaste, menstrual items, a comb, soap and deodorant.

Each care package also provides a girl or young woman with positive experiences and opportunities:

*A chance to show up a little less self-conscious (because we all know life is akward enough as a teen)

*To feel dignified (ever been a while without brushing your teeth or worn a menstrual pad that extra bit longer to make the packet last through a whole period!? Not a fulfilling or flattering experience)

*An opportunity to worry less about what you’re going to do that “time of the month” again (old socks or newspaper doesn’t quite cut it)

*Access to basic hygiene items that make us feel so much better and positively impact how we show up

These opportunities and the hygiene care packs were made possible through your donation and the donation of goods from organisations in our community (Shout out to New World Island Bay for the hundreds of bonus menstrual samples, and a range of local Dentists for the toothpaste!).

Thank you for your compassion and generosity in 2018!

Here’s to increasing access for girls and young women to basic hygiene items and thriving communities in 2019!

xx Nadia and Lynnda
