Wanting to grow old

A small plea to help our mother fight her cancer and grow old; to watch her children/mokopuna progress through life.

Auckland

Our mother Carmen isn't a successful businesswoman, she hasn't raised a professional athlete or doctor (yet), she hasn't cured diseases, solved Auckland's road problems or convinced Hone Key to not sign the TPPA. But she is your everyday Kiwi mother who has worked hard to provide for her kids to give them any opportunity she can. A mother whose love for her children goes unnoticed by those who matter most - her children. A normal kiwi mother who will be yelling just as loud on the sidelines of her children's sport as at the sight of her children's mounting washing piles. She is the best (and depending which child she had refused -the worst) mother in the entire world. She is our mum.

Mum has been diagnosed with an aggressive and rare cancer - High (Stage 4 [of 4]) grade Neuroendocrine Carcinoma (NEC or NETGS). The powers that be have guestimated that she could fight this for up to a year. Unfortunately I'm not a mind reader so I couldn't guestimate whether the power that be was fully confident with their . . . . diagnosis per say. Respecting this . . . .diagnosis; our mother has decided to grow old and watch her Mokopuna play at her feet as her husband makes her breakfast.

This NEC is an aggressive little bastard that has thought it's sweet to just set up a home for itself nestled in between her pancreas and her liver. It started with just a small 'flat' in her Pancreas and has decided to move out to much larger apartments (i.e. two tumours).

This page has been set up to help mum fight this cancer; there are a lot of "if's, and's or but's" regarding the situation but she is aiming to be positive by being proactive and treating the cancer using a mixture of doctors orders (Chemotherapy), alternative Maori Medicine (Mirimiri and Rongoa) and a alternative holistic approach that encompasses her well being physically, emotionally, spiritually and mentally/socially. This alternative treatment (ozone, vitamin c infusions, organic alkaline diet and supplements [to name a few]) does come at a cost which brings us to the purpose of this page.

Any donation (physically or spiritually) would be beneficial in aiding mum's quality of life in assisting her to overcome this 'human kryptonite'; helping her live to see her young children and mokopuna grow and learn.

On behalf of her Whanau, Husband (Jeff), six children - Sage (25), Linaria (14), Rhys (12), Leah (11), Zayne (9), Trey (8) and her Mokopuna Koulton (3) and Malia-Lavalea (6mths) thank you for taking the time out of your day to read our mothers story.

Any donations, prayers, thoughts and general positive vibes sent/received are much appreciated.

Take care of those you love, and remind them of it every moment you can.

Thank you, The oldest/smartest/good-looking/not tallest child

Mums a fighter  12 May 2016

Hey peeps,

Probably the last update before Mums Bday (close down date).

A lot has happened since the last update almost a month ago.

Firstly, a couple hard weeks for not only mum but also our extended whanau with the passing of our beloved Aunty Jo. This has brought a lot of home truths to the fore in a variety of ways for us all. Rest easy Aunty x.

Mum has completed 2 more rounds of chemo, she has had a couple more check ups and as a result of the most recent chemo round has needed a blood transfusion.

As a result of the chemo treatment as a whole we arrive at a bitter sweet moment.

The tumours have shrunk, apologies but I don't know by how much, but I believe about 20 & 40% respectively.

However as a result of the chemo, it has affected her bone marrow. Long story short the doc has advised it would be best to stop chemo at present as it could create more problems for mum further down the track.

They have created a new Plan in an attempt to help mum.

However, the dawning realisation is that their are bold vessels running through some of the tumours and due to its position the potential of surgery has been ruled out.

Mum informed us a couple of nights ago that this is more a fight to keep this cancer at bay more so then completely beating it. The treatment plan is to attempt to use Vit C to help.

I believe mum is still positive, although she is aware her mortality has been brought forward - to when?only time may tell. She still wants quality of life while trying to be here to catch milestones that go hand in hand with her children and Moko's growing old.

Lastly, apologies for my outburst the other night when you told us mum. It was never aimed at you or your doc, I guess it's cause I was holding on to that bit of hope that I/we could actually help beat this.

Now, I realise that all I/we can do is help you reach all the milestones in the years to come.

Even though I don't show it or say it . . .

Love you Mum
