Help us raise funds for life extending treatment. Ash’s next step is an unfunded medication, Olaparib.
Auckland
Ash was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2017. She underwent chemotherapy, a double mastectomy and reconstruction, and was declared cancer free not long after. In February 2023 Ash was sent to hospital by her doctor after seeking advice for pain in her abdomen. In hospital she learnt her breast cancer had returned in several places throughout her body, putting a sudden stop to the many plans her and her husband had been making.
Ash is a loved wife, sister, Aunty, daughter, god parent, and friend. Prior to her second diagnosis Ash was working hard to complete her PhD in anthropology. She currently lives with her husband and helps care for her god daughter, niece and nephew. She is compassionate and caring and has given so much support to her family and friends, and we wish to do the same for her.
Although Ash continues to work a small number of hours each week, it is unclear how long she will be able to continue.
Recently Ash has been taken off chemotherapy as her body had reached its limit. Her oncologists have recommended an unfunded medication, Olaparib, as the next step. As this is not funded in New Zealand, we would like to raise funds to help purchase this.
The cost of this medication is approx. $51,000 for the first year, $34,000 for the second year, then free after that.
If there are any extra funds, these will be used for day to day expenses and to go towards a trip to visit family overseas.
Ashley has been a constant presence in our lives: loving, supportive, and always putting others first.
Ashley has been there for all of us—now it’s our turn to be there for her.
Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and love.

New results and a plan 3 March 2025
Kia ora to our friends, family and cheerleaders! I thought I would share an update with you all on where we are at.
In preparation for beginning the new treatment, I did a baseline CT scan a few weeks back. The results demonstrated that the cancer in my bones and liver has remained stable. This result is heartening and is supported by my cancer marker staying low.
However, Cancer is fickle.
It looks like something may be happening in my ovaries now. This means referrals to different oncologists and more scans over the coming weeks. The question we are asking: is this breast cancer, or is this ovarian cancer? (or, and man I really hope this is the case, perhaps not cancer at all?)
The good news is that the unfunded medication I need is also effective against ovarian cancer. So, we are staying the course. The plan is to begin the cost-share Olaparib treatment in three weeks.
For your viewing pleasure, I have popped up a graph of my cancer marker - the fact that the marker is holding stable shows that the IV Chemo did its job.
Barrett and I have been having a difficult and anxiety-filled time of late – thank you very much for staying in our corner while we fight x
