We need to purchase the property on Gladstone Rd Nth to create a shared path including cycleway through the Chain Hills Tunnel

Otago

We have raised nearly $20000 - only some of which is on the Givealittle page Thank You

The Dunedin Tunnels Trail Trust is developing a safe, family-friendly cycle and walking trail from the centre of Dunedin through to the Taieri Plains via the two Victorian tunnels at Caversham and Chain Hills.

For Stage One we need to purchase the property on Gladstone Rd Nth to create an easement to provide for a trail through the Chain Hills tunnel and on to Abbotsford and Green Island. Once the easement is created the rest of the property will be on-sold.

About us

We’re creating a trail that would:

• create a family-friendly and safe commuter, recreational, and tourist corridor between Mosgiel, Fairfield, Abbotsford, Green Island, and Dunedin via the two old rail tunnels at Caversham and Chain Hills

• provide a local accessible tourist attraction of Dunedin's heritage

• create a flat railtrail path

• enable cyclists and other trail users to be able to move away from major traffic flows

• increase awareness and participation in outdoor activities and heritage railtrail

Use of funds

The funds raised will go towards the purchase of the property and the costs of creating an easement; managing the property in the short term; and potentially subdividing a part to ensure the long-term future of the trail.

If we cannot raise the loan amount within the timeframe to purchase the property, we go back to negotiations with the landowner. Funds raised here will continue to be used towards that specific goal.

May not use this very often, but will be a nice option to have. Especially if it links to the Town one.
