When a child is brought up in a household where committing crime is almost normal behaviour, the likelihood of the child going on to offend is dramatically increased. It is estimated that there are currently 800 children who have a parent in prison in Christchurch. They need an opportunity to reach their full potential.
Pillars was founded over 30 years ago as a charity supporting one of Aotearoa's most vulnerable yet invisible populations- children with parents in prison. After three decades, Pillars children and families were honored to be named as the NZ Community of the Year at the New Zealander of the Year Awards in 2018.
