Help me buy a COGY for daily exercise.
Taranaki
I first saw this genius bike/ wheelchair last Labour Weekend, at Elevate camp in Matamata. From the very beginning I wanted to get one.
I can use it, and it works and is better exercise than my shaky walking (on a walking frame). It's safer too.
They cost $5000 each and the main frame is guaranteed to last 5 years. Other parts are available if they need replacing, at a bike shop.
I will use the COGY once a day to start with, since it can make me tired. Walking or other exercises the other two sessions every day.
I have a Muscular Distrophy which gets worse, so I have been a full time wheelchair user for 3 and a bit years, to get around. Keeping as active and fit as possible has been a priority of mine for a long time, since exercising has been shown to slow down the progression of my disability in others who have it.
I really appreciate every little bit of support.
Folks, I have a decision to make. $5.500 is a lot of money to spend on a bike. I can't use the Cogy outside when it is raining because my caregivers don't want to get wet. One of my caregivers went to a bike shop today on my request to ask about modified pedals to go on a pedal machine. She gave me the name of a bike shop in Levin that do that sort of thing. I rang them, and they have a pedal machine that works with wheelchairs, which with modified pedals would be about $1,500.
I do not have space in my room for both machines, although I really enjoy going somewhere under my own steam, while using Cogy outside in the evenings. $5,500 is a lot of money to spend for a bike.
The money will be spent on buying a COGY wheelchair. With your permission I will use extra towards better accommodation.
