I am fundraising to support my grandson through college. Below is an old pic from 5 years ago.
Wellington
Bastian Hamuera Va'a Groves (13yr) is my beloved grandson and is starting college next year in Wellington. I have set up an account that is devoted to helping with his college expenses.
Bastian is resilient, yet he has been through a lot in his young life, this year has been especially hard. His mother (Amber) had a serious cerebrum stroke 2 months ago which affected both sides of her brain and has had lasting effects. It is unclear how much she will recover. Amber is currently on the sickness benefit and is in long term therapy at home. She is unable to drive, is numb on the left side of her body, has lost her sense of taste, has constant tinnitus, and has lost the ability to write. Everything is an effort, even carrying a cup is too hard at the moment. It has been very stressful for Bastian to see his mother so unwell.
I would love Bastian to have a fun and positive experience at college and not suffer in anyway as his Mum can't afford to pay for his school needs. Amber is doing her best to cover daily bills/expenses, but living on a benefit with a teenager is not easy in Wellington. I am hoping that people will be moved to support Bastian so he can simply focus on learning and being a happy, healthy kiwi teenager, without any more worries.
The year 9 uniform alone costs $435, and there are no 2nd hand uniforms available his size. I hope to get him a decent PC he can use at school, pay for uniforms and school shoes (he wears them fast - about 2-3 pairs a year!), and cover college trips/activities so he doesn't miss out.
I am involved as I love my grandson and think he really is worthy of community support. I think it will also really help take some financial pressure off his mum, who is taking life one day at a time right now.
The College have given the below figures based on 5 years of enrollment.
-$2175.00: College uniform ($435 for yr 9 uniform )
- $250.00: Stationary pack x5 ($50 for 2018)
- $1000: Laptop PC (includes insurance)
- $600: School shoes ($40-60 p/pair)
- $525: Sports shoes (depends on quality/brand - cheap ones are $35)
- $1000: Events/trips/fees (approx $250 p/year. The fees I know of so far: year 9 - $45 technology, $70 p/sport p/season, activities $100, text book $25)
