Joshua has Type 1 Diabetes and Addison's disease, a relatively rare combo and needs help getting a CGM to improve his way of life!
Auckland
My husband, Joshua, suffers from Type 1 Diabetes and Addison's disease. Only a handful of people suffer from this combination of diseases throughout New Zealand approx. 60-200. He got diagnosed with Addison's thirteen years ago and then just three years ago he got diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Since then he has had multiple hospital admissions due to hypos and sickness because Diabetes and Addisons just don't mix well.
We are a family of five with the youngest being 6 months old. Josh works full time in the city of Manukau in Auckland and has a passion for playing guitar, recording music and being a dad to his kids.
The funding we could receive would enable us to purchase a 12 month subscription for a Continuous Glucose Monitor which is really what Joshua needs in order to be able to work full time, be able to play with his children and pursue the things he is most passionate about. It would also reduce long term side effects such as nerve damage, dementia, eye and liver problems. The biggest issue with this technology is unfortunately it is not funded in NZ so it will cost us $5200 every year. We are hoping to get enough funding for the first 12 months which will give us time to set up for future costs.
A CGM gives you advanced warning of impending hypos so he can treat them well before he is incapacitated, saving the tax payer $1000s of dollars and keeping him out of hospital, not to mention improving his way of life.
We'd love some support and to see Josh back to his normal self.
I am raising funds on behalf of my husband. He struggles with Type 1 diabetes and I want to surprise him.
Funding will be used to purchase a 12 month subscription for a Continuous Glucose Monitor. If we manage to exceed our target then the excess will go towards the following years subscription.
