Hey little fighter soon things will be brighter lets get in behind this beautiful family and get them home to some normality
Gore, Southland
Corbin is an 11 year old boy from Gore. He enjoys the outdoors, is a keen fisherman and loves a good hunt. Corbin isn’t always capable of these activities those due to a condition called Doose Syndrome.
Doose Syndrome is a rare epileptic condition where the seizures are frequent and can last seconds, minutes or hours. Unfortunately there is no cure for Doose Syndrome.
Five weeks ago Corbin underwent a surgical procedure to have a peg inserted to replace his nasal gastric tube he has had for the past four years. After complications with a severe infection to Corbin's peg site they were transferred to Christchurch.
On Saturday 31st August Corbin went in for surgery to have what was meant to be a straight forward fix but huge complications meant six wounds to his abdomen this caused disruption to his stomach and his anti-epileptic medication being absorbed.
On Thursday 5th September Corbin took a turn for the worst being placed in a medical coma. Causing huge stress for the family with both parents being with Corbin while friends and family cared for younger siblings.
Today Corbin is out of the ICU unit is able to talk, is slightly more alert but still isn’t mobile.
As a community we would love to help Corbin and his family on this journey while they navigate what could be their new normal, Travis has no remaining holidays and now Melissa taking a break from work to care for Corbin.
The Belt family are friends of ours, common connection our children have seizures
