During the night of 12th February 2018, Cyclone Gita blasted its way through the Beautiful Kingdom of Tonga and caused untold havoc, tearing down trees and power lines, demolishing homes, ruining possessions, displacing families, and seriously injuring some people. We have family living on Tongatapu who were severely affected. Sione's sister, Meliame Vaka, her husband and 6 children, lost their home and everything in it.
Sione's Aunty Tonga, lost her home and possessions.
Sione's Uncle, Ofila Havea was attempting to secure part of a neighbours house, when he fell and broke his back. He was admitted to Vaiola Hospital in Tonga, where he remains in poor health with no movement below his waist.
I feel persuaded to help Meliame and Ofila, as they are my Son in Laws Sister and Uncle living in Tonga. They have lost almost everything, including there homes and possessions, and in Ofila's case, almost his life. They are among the most humble and kind people I know. They deserve our help to get some normality happening for them and their children.
Fund will be used to help and support with re-homing these families and providing financial assistance for medical costs for Ofila where necessary
People of Patangata are still waiting for aid to arrive 8 March 2018
You may have seen the ONE news article yesterday about Jacinda Ardern in Tonga. The people in the Patangata area are only 10 minutes drive from the main business area of Tongatapu and yet have been basically forgotten. They were initially given tents to live in and they are living in those, and their vehicles (if they have one). They are cooking outside among the rubble or their ruined possessions, mud, water, pigs and dogs......The whole thing is terrible...they HAVE been forgotten and left to fend for themselves. Please help me to help them.....
