Help Dad win his fight with cancer
Hamilton, Waikato
Our Dad, Thomas has been a Paramedic for 35yrs. He’s dedicated his life to helping people and saving lives, and given thousands of people more time, vital emergency treatment and often a second chance at life. He has literally kept people alive. Now he needs our help
Dad has recently been diagnosed with stomach cancer, which has unfortunately spread into the liver and peritoneum - the lining around all the organs in the abdomen. The cancer is too advanced to treat it with radiation or surgery
Although Dad has started chemo, because of the aggressive nature of the cancer, doctors have advised that he may only have on average a year. But there is some hope. With your help, we are trying to give Dad enough time so he can go home to see desperately loved family in South Africa
We know Dad has a rare ‘broken’ gene which less than 1% of people have, called MMRD. Because of this, he can be given the drug Pembrolizumab which could prolong his life anywhere from 2-4 years. Without this drug, we know Dad’s time with us will be very limited. There will be no chance of Dad seeing family overseas
However, this drug is not available publicly, and we’ll need to pay for it privately. This will cost us approximately $78,000. We are doing as much as we can but we’re asking for your help
Please consider giving Dad more time to see his family, by donating whatever you can, and sharing this page far and wide on twitter, facebook etc. Thank you everyone for your support, it means the world to us
Thomas is my Dad
The money will all be spent on a non funded private sector treatment (Pembrolizumab and Ipilimumab) for the cancer.
Use of funds 4 July 2022
I would just like to thank everyone for their donations in support of my Dad. He was extremely grateful for everyone’s help and support.
The funds raised are being released to us (being paid to Kate) and will cover the cost of the funeral and to pay for his first treatment.
Thanks again to everyone x
