Our Deaf Mental Health group is extremely isolated and needs a dedicated Deaf Community Support Worker.

Our Deaf Mental Health clients need a dedicated Deaf Community Support Worker. Someone who has experience working with mental health patients and who is Deaf and completely fluent in NZSL. A CSW who will help with overcoming isolation, help with reflection and integration. Our clients need to learn to Celebrate life.

Deaf Wellbeing Society Incorporated's involvement (page creator)

I am involved with the Deaf Wellbeing Society as the chairperson. I was one of the founders of our little club 5 years ago and I have seen first hand how the need for our society has grown and continues to grow. Being Deaf is a lonely Disability and when you suffer with Mental Health the combination can seem overbearing.

About us

The Deaf Wellbeing Society Incorporated in a non-profit Deaf led community organisation in New Zealand. Our soul purpose is to empower and enrich the lives of the Deaf through education and to reduce isolation through social contact.

The Deaf Wellbeing Society Incorporated was founded to

• promote the physical, mental, emotional and social wellbeing of all Deaf people.

• promote and assist with the establishment and maintenance of educational and social activities for the Deaf.

• reduce social isolation.

• encourage and promote all methods of communication for the Deaf, particularly New Zealand Sign Language.

• provide transparent support for the Deaf, to remove the barriers they encounter with communication and education and above all protect the interests of the Deaf.

To empower the Deaf!

Use of funds

$26,000 will employ a Deaf Community Support Worker for 2 days per week and will be able to fund a Drop In Centre for the Deaf one day a week. This will provide the clients with social contact especially geared around their issues but also give one day a week for the CSW to travel to clients' homes or other health provider appointments with them.
