Our Deaf Mental Health group is extremely isolated and needs a dedicated Deaf Community Support Worker.
Auckland
Our Deaf Mental Health clients need a dedicated Deaf Community Support Worker. Someone who has experience working with mental health patients and who is Deaf and completely fluent in NZSL. A CSW who will help with overcoming isolation, help with reflection and integration. Our clients need to learn to Celebrate life.
I am involved with the Deaf Wellbeing Society as the chairperson. I was one of the founders of our little club 5 years ago and I have seen first hand how the need for our society has grown and continues to grow. Being Deaf is a lonely Disability and when you suffer with Mental Health the combination can seem overbearing.
$26,000 will employ a Deaf Community Support Worker for 2 days per week and will be able to fund a Drop In Centre for the Deaf one day a week. This will provide the clients with social contact especially geared around their issues but also give one day a week for the CSW to travel to clients' homes or other health provider appointments with them.
