Dennis' cycle from Prague to Passau - for the End Polio Now Campaign
Dennis Murdoch is a 67 year old road cyclist from Huntly, New Zealand. Along with his Family, Cycling and Rotary this is a Campaign that Dennis feels very strongly about. Therefore, starting on 1 June 2015 from Prague in the Czech Republic, Dennis will cycle the 1,714km through six countries finishing on 24 June 2015 in Passau, Germany.
All funds raised will go to the End Polio Now Campaign. End Polio Now' is supported by Rotary Worldwide. Dennis is the current President of Huntly Rotary. Rotary has a massive influence in supporting this amazing cause through fundraising events and this is being added as to be another successful outcome for the fight to End Polio.
Polio is a crippling and potentially fatal disease. It is a highly infectious disease caused by a virus. It invades the nervous system and can cause irreversible paralysis in a matter of hours. There is no cure, but there are safe and effective vaccines. The strategy to eradicate polio is therefore based on preventing infection by immunizing every child until transmission stops and the world is polio-free.
With your help this can be achieved! Vaccinating a child costs 60cents so please donate to a fantastic cause and give Dennis a reason to challenge himself to cycle this 1,714km journey.
Dennis has competed not only in road cycling events throughout New Zealand, he is often found competing at the Velodrome in Cambridge and Invercargill in track events.
As the President of Huntly Rotary I wanted to support and raise money for a worthy cause. 'End Polio Now' is a charity that I feel strongly about and with the Campaign also supported by Rotary Worldwide i felt it was very fitting.
