Digital Seniors - Help From Home 5

$1,980 of $10,000 goal
Given by 33 generous donors in around 3 months

The senior digital divide is growing. We can't leave seniors behind.

We all have seniors in our lives whom we love. One day, each of us will become that senior.

They say it takes a village to raise a child. We would like to add that it also takes a village to care for a senior and to provide them with the connection and independence they deserve.

The Wairarapa has the largest senior population per capita, and the demand for our services is rapidly growing. We have among the highest rates of social isolation and loneliness in the country; and now, more than ever, it is important that we reach the seniors who need us most, we urgently need to help 500 more seniors. To do this, we need your help.

A donation of $20 will help a senior get one on one coaching at one of our hubs

A donation of $40 will help either 3 seniors in a hub or one senior receive a home visit.

A donation of $100 will provide a homebound senior with 6 weeks of coaching at home.

A donation of $200 will help us explore opportunities to expand into other regions so we can help more seniors across Aotearoa

About us

Digital Seniors is a charitable trust in the Wairarapa, and it is our aim to help seniors navigate the changing technology and experience the many benefits it can offer.

Since our launch in 2018, the Wairarapa community has come together to empower over 3000 seniors with some 11,000 learning topics to help them gain confidence in their use of technology.

Our services have helped seniors in so many ways; from ordering online groceries to sending and receiving text and email messages to connect with whānau, both locally and internationally—especially during the varied lockdown periods we have experienced because of the pandemic.

What we do:

Digital Seniors is composed of volunteers, all of whom we recruit and train to help seniors one-on-one in their homes, or at one of our 5 Wairarapa hubs. We also offer online hubs, which help seniors with a variety of topics, from talking to a fraud investigator and learning about online scams to taking a guided virtual trip to Cambodia. All our services are free.

Some of our favourite quotes from our seniors sum up the positive impact DIgital Seniors Has created in their lives…….

“I now have the confidence I can do this by myself.”

“You’ve turned my life around.”

“I can’t believe it; there’s a whole new world there for me.”
