Enhance 400 Cambodians' lives through education

$80 of $4,000 goal
Given by 5 generous donors in one year

To aid 400 Cambodian Children giving them the opportunity to obtain a good job or continue their education through University.

Otago

Salariin Kampuchea runs a school of English, Chinese, Computing, & Life Skills classes in Siem Reap, one of the poorest provinces of Cambodia. Children from rural areas don't receive a proper education and usually drop out of school very early to join their families in the fields. Our goal is to offer them a chance to better their own and their families' lives. The project will educate 400 children giving them the opportunity to obtain a good job or continue their education through University.

Through Give-A-Little, New Zealanders have already helped to renovate classrooms and floors. Also, the school recently installed Solar Panels to provide safe and sustainable power for the children to continue their studies during frequent power outages in Siem Reap with aid from New Zealand donations.

Challenge

Siem Reap is one of the poorest regions in Cambodia with 52% of the population living in poverty and some of the poorest educational indicators in the Country. Public schools have limited options to provide those skills required to get reasonable paying jobs and vulnerable children often drop out of school very early to join family in the fields. In Salariin Kampuchea schools, poor children can acquire, for free, those skills that will give them the chance to rise out of poverty.

Solution

Salariin Kampuchea offers free English & Computer classes to the poorest children of Siem Reap. We also provide community library access & Life Skills classes, topics include: self-esteem, social awareness & capacity building to help students pursue their education & career paths. We encourage students to volunteer in the community, to spread their knowledge and amplify the impact. Students and parents are encouraged to complete their formal education. We aim to enhance lives through education.

Long-Term Impact

The project will educate 400 Cambodian Children giving them the opportunity to obtain a good job or continue their education through University. We help them secure internships, vocational training & university places. By promoting the value of education in our communities, the children have a higher chance of finishing their formal education, giving the new generation the knowledge & skills to build a strong community and contribute to the local economy - working to end the cycle of poverty.
