Otago
On Wednesday 3 June Dunedin was ravaged by a ‘once in 100 year’ flood. Schools closed, public transport ground to a halt, shops and businesses swamped, and houses evacuated.
The Dunedin Flood Appeal has been launched to support families and individuals through the recovery phase.
Money raised through the appeal will be used to fund applications made to the Mayoral Relief Fund. People who are eligible will receive funding for temporary accommodation, replacement of essential furniture and household items, and grants to help households pack and move, store belongings and get independent advice.
It will be weeks before many houses are liveable, and months before Dunedin has fully recovered. It is vital that no individual or family falls through the cracks.
I'm involved because I'm the Labour MP for Dunedin South.
