You will be supporting me so I can train local teachers in Laos in computing skills, who then teach 280 students each year.

I was moved when I went to Laos in 2011 by the poverty yet the ambition of people to work hard to improve their lives. Students strive for a better education so I have been working with a charity school since 2013 providing education to Lao youth.

Students come every day, a big effort for many as many cannot even afford a bicycle. We have been donated some bikes which we lend out. Yet they come and do well. These skills get them better jobs and a cycle begins that reduces poverty.

The teachers and students are amazing to work with. The students are always smiling and so polite and thrilled to have a place at school and the chance at an education.

More detail:

BACKGROUND: Laos is one of the poorest countries in the world. 80% of people are subsistence farmers and work opportunities are few. English and computer skills help get jobs and reduce poverty.

THE PROBLEM: Education in Laos is not free so those living in poverty can't afford to learn. There are few resources and poor facilities. Many people are stuck with a bleak future of poverty.

THE IMPACT: 300 students a year gain the ability to get better employment, siblings are often sent to school since the family can pay the fees, others are inspired to work hard and study too. Students can then help their family out of poverty and inspire others to learn and get employment. And so a cycle begins. Support for community projects provides much needed facilities.

ABOUT ME: I have been going to Laos every year since 2013 and seen the difference this help makes first hand. I am involved in projects on the ground and 100% unpaid.

Lao people do not have the same opportunities New Zealander's have and every dollar and donation goes a long way and together we do make a real difference in people's lives.

Help A little's involvement (page creator)

I have shown on-going committment to Lao projects since 2013. In 2015 I helped establish a permanent IT teaching facility at a charity school in Luang Prabang. In 2016 this was extended to elementary level.

I develop programmes and train teachers who teach Lao youth struggling to access education. Together we also provide clean drinking water, hand washing stations and electricity into schools.

A decent job means young adults can support not only themselves but contribute towards their family. People with jobs usually pay for their siblings education too. More info http://helpalittle.nz/
