We are taking a group of youth on a trip of a lifetime to Aussie in September. We need a little help with the extra costs involved.

One of the things we do here at the Kiwi Family Trust is to run camps for youth, primarily those who are having a bit of a struggle. These youth have often suffered a trauma in their lives, sometimes through some form of abuse, bullying, surgery, or other life circumstances. We also find a lot of them are struggling with difficult family situations, and are having (through no fault of their own) to live outside of the family home, often with other family members, sometimes in foster or state care situations. These camps are a valuable break in the lives of these youth. We keep them small, so as to be able to give the youth more one-on-one attention with our trauma-informed trained staff.
We are taking a group of youth on the trip of a lifetime to Australia in September this year. Overseas travel does several things for our youth - it shows them that they have opportunities that a lot of them would never have dreamed of, it allows them to experience new cultures, it expands their possibilities horizon, and it encourages them to dream and set goals for themselves and their lives. Which in turn, makes for more well-rounded and higher achieving adults who have more potential to be productive members of society.
Each youth is responsible for doing their best to fund raise. We have already raised the money for the airfares and accommodation, we have an ongoing cheese roll fundraiser – we’re just looking for a little extra help.
We have been around since 2002, providing services including parenting courses, One-on-One Mentoring, our 3 day Empowering Positive Change programme, our Empowering Our Youth camps, and our Knitting For Plunket & The Community project.
The money will go towards things like our meals, vehicle hire, activities, insurance costs, and other incidentals. If we have surplus, it will go towards more activities, or even another camp which we run in the school holidays.
Postponed due to Covid19 17 July 2020
But we're still going! As soon as it's safe to do so, we'll schedule the trip for the kids. In the meantime, the youth have had a wonderful cheese roll fundraiser, and are planning to have more of them to help themselves get to their goal.
