Stemcell replacement for Em’s MS Journey. Clínica Ruiz In Mexico.
Dunedin, Otago
My daughter is 25 and has recently been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Em was working fulltime up until she suddenly started losing feeling in her hands and feet.
After being admitting into hospital she lost all feeling from her bellybutton down. MRIs showed multiple lesions in her brain and down her spine. Emma spent time at a rehabilitation clinic trying to get her ability to walk back and deal with this life changing news.
Unfortunately Emma's feeling in her hands has not returned so she struggles with daily life and can’t work. The government offers no support financially whatsoever so Em is left with no wage to live let alone save for much needed Stemcell replacement.
Our aim is to send Em to Mexico to "reset" her immune system by intense chemotherapy and stem cell transplant. This is called HSCT. Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation. This will put a halt to MS and hopefully give Emma a chance to get back to some normality in her life. Emma is fatigued constantly, she shakes uncontrollably, her life has changed dramatically for the worst. Emma does not want to end up in a wheelchair or worse and desperately needs this treatment.
The cost is $120000 but Emma’s using her only source of savings (her KiwiSaver) which is $30000. If out target isn’t reached on givealittle we will be trying other ways to achieve our goal and it will be all going towards Emma’s treatment.
I’m Emma’s Mum and want my girl to live a full and healthy life.
Flights to Mexico and operation for Stemcell Replacement/ Chemo/ medication. The operation involves removing Emma’s Tcells and freezing them. Then Intense chemotherapy will be given to reset Emma’s immune system. Cells are re transplanted.
Christmas update. 10 December 2024
Hi there guys, Emma here. First of all thank you so much for all the love and support I have been shown. All of this would not be possible without it!
I have been doing a lot of different fundraising and we are slowly chipping away at our end goal. Mum and I have now been able to book our flights, we are leaving on the 1st of March and arrive back home on the 1st of April.
I will not be receiving anymore transfusions and hope I don’t relapse. Fingers crossed. Wishing you all a very Safe Christmas. Lots of love.
