End of a long medical journey…

Our son Riley was diagnosed with Leukaemia in April 2020 in the throes of the start of the Covid Pandemic. Mum had also just come out of being hospitalised for a month after 3 spinal surgeries, 5 days before he was diagnosed. So overall, 2020 was the most traumatic year for our family health wise especially.

2 years on and we were getting ready to celebrate Rileys end of treatment on 20 June 2022 by fulfilling his final wish - to see the snow! And to celebrate that after a long nearly 2.5 years, countless hospitalisations, many MANY Chemotherapy medications and sacrifices made by all the family members - we made it and Riley is in remission.

What should be a happy next few weeks is marred by some awful stress due to mum having further spinal complications requiring surgery again, unable to work since late April 2022 and having no paid leave left, we have fallen behind on many of our bills. The main ones being our rent, utilities and vehicle payments. ACC has also been a challenge.

Unable to keep up with basic day to expenses means that our lovely home is at risk being behind in rent (please note we have amazing rental agents & landlord has been amazing, but the reality is we all have bills to pay) we are also unable to fulfil Rileys end of treatment wish to go to Taupo and have had to cancel our cottage booked months ago as we don’t have any funds.

We also want to donate any funds raised in excess to Help other Child Cancer families in need so every $1 counts.
