Equity Brilliant School for AIDS Orphans

Equity Brilliant is a school for AIDS orphans in Kenya. Its supported by NZ volunteers who need help fundraising to keep the school running

Auckland

The Equity Brilliant School is a self-funded school aimed at providing education and a brighter future for AIDS orphans in Kenya.

Based in Rusinga Island, Kenya, the school opened in 2013 by two women living a world apart. Hellen Ogodo, a local of Rusinga who volunteers full time as the school’s director and only teacher, and Lynn Williams, a hugely compassionate 77 year old woman based in Auckland. For many years Lynn has been tirelessly fundraising and sends every dollar she can to keep the school running.

Even with limited resources and holding classes in a small corrugated iron shed, the school now has over 80 students and more waiting to join. In addition to providing those most vulnerable with an education, the school also provides food and health programmes for their students.

All fundraising is performed by a handful of volunteers and with donated materials. Therefore was are proud to say there are no administration fees and 100% of donations go directly to the running of the school and betterment of the students.

Market stalls, mufti days, student run events and other grassroots fundraising has provided the majority of donations. But if the school is going to grow and achieve some financial security, then we need to find more ways of connecting with supporters. Hence this Givealittle page.

Any donation would be greatly appreciated and we promise it will be utilized to help our students achieve that brighter future.

Alternatively, please help spread the word and visit our website for more information and background, or Share our facebook page.

I recently met Lynn Williams who runs the fundraising in NZ for Equity School. I loved the compassion and dedication she showed in supporting these kids.

After seeing the effort she puts into traditional fundraising methods (e.g. stalls, school fundraisers etc...) I wanted to help by setting up a website, facebook page and givealittle pages to spread the word and hopefully secure a little more funding.

Now that I have worked with and gotten to know both Lynn & Hellen over the last few months, I'm proud to be involved with this initiative.

New School Year for 2018 Underway  24 February 2018

Thanks to everyone who has support Equity Brilliant school during 2017. The number of students have grow to over 100 pupils, that's 100 children who wouldn't receive education or social service support without Equity.

The donations from philanthropic Kiwis (both through givealittle and markets stalls) have helped us embark on a new school year and even make some vital improvements around the school, including;

1) A new school vegetable garden to contribute to the school's food programme,

2) A new water tank which will help store water during the dry season,

3) LED lights for the school house,

While funding and resources are always limited, we truly hope that with grassroots support from the local community and generous Kiwis, we can give these children the opportunity they deserve for a better future.
