Establishing a crafting workroom in Wellington

Diverting waste textile from landfill; giving crafters a sense of purpose; and supplying charities with products required by their clients.

Wellington

Crafty Volunteers Wellington has been gifted the use of a venue in Central Wellington to establish a crafting workroom. Here we will be running weekly crafting days, where people can knit and crochet with other crafters. This provides crafters with a sense of community and a sense of purpose.

We are also commencing our waste textile repurposing programme, where we convert donations of commercial textile that would have otherwise gone to landfill, in to items that our charity partners provide to their vulnerable clients.

Over the last 5 years we have operated on a near cashless basis, by becoming adept at getting new or used items either for free or heavily discounted - but some things simply need to be bought new.

We require funding to cover the cost of equipment like dressmaking scissors, cutting boards and roller cutters, plus shelving and storage bins, as well as an initial supply of consumables like elastic, velcro and branded labels.

Your support is greatly appreciated and will help us continue to provide many thousands of items to our charity partners each year.

About us

Individuals helping their community one stitch at a time.

Crafty Volunteers connect the people who knit, crochet and sew for charity to the charities that need products in New Zealand.

Use of funds

Funds will be used to buy equipment and consumables to get our workroom established and operational. More money in means more items can be made and donated - less money in means we may not be able to help all the charities we'd like to.

Thanks so much for your contribution to the work we are doing at crafty Volunteers. We are currently investigating the purchase of a "snaps" machine and a stock of snaps, for fastening bibs around baby's neck, and your donation will go towards that. Huge thanks again. Maggie

Please thank mum very much from us. This amount will buy enough elastic to make 20 fitted cot sheets, which our baby related charities desperately need. Much love to mum from us.
