Eugenie's cancer journey has entered the next phase and requires non-funded drug treatment.
Canterbury
Eugenie is my wonderful wife and mother to our three children Josie (10), Annushka (8) and Toby (4). In Jan of 2016 Eugenie was diagnosed with a Grade 4 Glioblastoma (GBM), a very aggressive brain tumour. She underwent a course of radiation and chemotherapy early in 2016. She had responded extremely well and has, as we joke at home, gone past her 'use by date' by a considerable time period. We had seen the tumour shrink and enjoyed the benefits that that entailed. We are two years down the path now and the tumour is now growing rapidly again. The treatment that is available to us and has been recommended for Eugenie by two Oncologists, is not funded by the government. The treatment is a drug called Bivacizumab.
#### UPDATE ####
Eugenie has been taking the drug for the last two months and has had an MRI recently. The results were very good. The swelling has reduced considerably and the tumour has not progress in the last two months. Eugenie is able to reduce her other medications that have undesirable side effects. The money already donated totaling $20,960.00 has been used to pay for the last 5 treatments. Each two weekly treatment costs almost $5,000.00 we need to fund 6 more treatments for Eugenie to maximise the benefit of this drug. This page has been extended to enable us to fundraise further as we now know the drug is working.
The funds generously donated would be used for paying for the drug Bivacizumab and the associated costs of administering the drug through a private hospital.
Thank you! 26 June 2018
Dear Family and Friends,
You haven't heard from us for a few months as we were in the midst of Eugenie's treatment. Eugenie was able to complete 9 two week cycles. The last cycle was 2 weeks ago. Eugenie did not bounce back from that last treatment as she had done so previously. She has started showing symptoms of tumour progression once more. We visited with Oncologist today and it has been decided that Eugenie will stop the treatment. What does that mean? Well, all arrows have now been spent. All treatment options have been exhausted and we are now in the hands of the palliative service. We are so thankful for all the care and treatment Eugenie has had in the public and private services. To be honest it's a tough day for us as a family. The children have taken in their stride. Understandably, they're sad and that is okay. We're carrying on as we've started, taking each day as it comes. We are so grateful for the support we've had lavished upon us. Please continue to pray for our family, especially for peace in this time. All good wishes and thoughts are always welcome too.
