Everybody Eats | Everybody Helps

The Everybody Eats team in Auckland had served over 7,000 meals to Kiwis in need before closing a successful crowdfunding campaign on June 4th, raising $129,000 to combat both food waste and food poverty and create a home for the project.

There is clearly a need. And there are clearly people who care. When we asked the public what they felt about the situation locally (Christchurch), they said they think it's a big problem and most want to help, but don't know how. Money doesn't quite help an individual feel better. So what about food? What about being around people who care? Who socially accept you and support you?

The team here at XCHC were deeply moved by the Everybody Eats movement and as a safe space for individuals and communities to gather, we saw the need to host something of our own for our street whānau. We met with Street Wise on June 19th and decided to host an event on breaking down stigmas, inviting our street whānau to spend the day being looked after and fed by a supportive community.

Street Wise is a new initiative in Christchurch providing care, clothing, food, and social support with our street whānau to combat the current lack of support. This Givealittle page is to raise money for Street Wise to continue to deliver their services, cover the costs of our event, and contribute to the development of an Everybody Eats project in Christchurch.

EVERYBODY HELPS:

• Before an event was even created, Founder of My Fathers Barber (Matt) offered to provide haircuts for the whole afternoon.

• The Rad Collective are a group of local street artists, illustrators and designers who are going to be transforming the venue into an urban representation of the streets of Christchurch.

• Kophie, member of The Rad Collective, voluntarily designed our wonderful poster

• Mark Chirnside (Chirny's Coffee) has donated coffee and offered to teach anyone who wants to learn some basic barista skills.

• You. We're welcoming all to bring some kai to share from 4pm onward if you cannot join us for a shared dinner at 6PM. Or give contribute to our Givealittle page

THE EVENT:

From 3pm-6pm will be our pop up Barber Shop, playing games, taking in the art, and enjoying cups of the famous Chirny Coffee

From 6pm-9pm we will sit together as a community, share a meal and hear from some amazing guest speakers who are going to talk about stigmas within our community and how we can break them down.

Then there will be an open jam invite to local Christchurch musicians, a great way to see the talent that is in this city! If you would like to come down and jam, please feel free to bring your instrument and join in.
