Free my sister Amira from prison in Eritrea where her health is seriously deteriorating
Auckland
My family came to New Zealand in 2002 as refugees and have settled happily here and all are New Zealand citizens now.
In 2016 we learnt that my sister in Eritrea had been imprisoned.
This was devastating for our family and we thought it would be for a short time. But that did not happen. She is still in prison after 4 years and the only way out is to pay for her release. Now her health has so deteriorated it is urgent.
What happened is that my sister was working at a gas station which receives all their petrol on credit from the government, when one day the petrol was stolen. Unable to repay the amount she owes to the government, she was jailed.
The conditions of prison have taken a toll on my sister and she does not deserve to be imprisoned for circumstances that were beyond her control. Her young daughter needs her mother back in her life. Any amount of donation will assist.
I am the sister of the beneficiary
The money donated will be going towards the fee set out by the government in exchange for her release.
Reopening Page 28 February 2021
As of last month my sister has been released. Alhumdillillah. Nevertheless, we are reopening the page because we continue to pay the debt and we still appreciate any further donations.
