Featherston 1st Friday- Music, art and fun for everyone

We started Featherston 1st Fridays in summer 2016, because we love free music, art and fun, and we felt Featherston needed more of it. Basically, we could- so we did!

We have enjoyed creating and hosting this series of themed outdoor events, held on the 1st Friday of the summer months. They add visible vibrancy to Featherston's town centre, and give our fantastic community a way to come together, meet and mingle, and just have fun together. Music is always key, with a band or DJ. First Friday events are creative, irreverent, and inclusive, whether we are colouring in the Squircle with ephemeral chalk painting, making Yayoi Kusama inspired dot art, or just having a dressup and boogie.

Now we need your help to keep it rolling into 2019. We have secured baseline funding through the Creative Communities Scheme (enough to know we can do something each month) and are applying for other grants. Any money raised, including in this crowdfunding appeal, will be used for the events, as we are all volunteers. We would like to be able to actually cover all costs, and pay entertainers the proper but modest fees they deserve.

We have thought about passing a koha hat at the events- but we really don't want to make anyone feel bad if they can't put anything in- and then not come along again.
