Fight Waste Management's proposed Toxic and Waste Processing facility - give a little to help your community in its opposition.
Canterbury
Help us stop the air discharge applications by Waste Management at its proposed Toxic and Hazardous Waste Processing Facility.
We are supporting the fight to stop the development of the South Christchurch Toxic & Hazardous Waste Processing Facility on Marshs Road, South Hornby. This facility is being developed by Waste Management (NZ) Limited to replace their existing operation in Bromley, Christchurch.
Everybody understands the need to process waste, but the proposed site is close to many homes, several kindergartens and schools, a number of busy retail sites and a recreational cycleway. The land immediately adjacent is used by market gardeners to grow food crops for human consumption.
We are very concerned that toxic residue from the proposed plant will contaminate the air, land and water and damage the health and well-being of neighbouring communities.
Money raised will be distributed by a Trust of community members. It will be spent on opposing the applications for air discharge consents that have been made to the Regional Council, and for public awareness and education campaigns.
Funding the Opposition to Waste Management's Application for Toxic Waste 30 June 2020
Help us keep raising money for our opposition to the application by Waste Management. Waste Management has now applied to head straight to the Environment Court. More funds are required for the fight to prevent the processing of toxic and hazardous waste on our doorstep. Thank you so much to the 92 generous people who have donated to date - we are very grateful.
