I am running the Dunedin Half Marathon to raise money for Fiji Village Project, which promotes health in the South Pacific region

Otago

This year I will be running the Dunedin Half Marathon on September 9th to raise money for a volunteering trip I will be undertaking in December/January 2019 in Fiji. A group of medical and nursing students will be travelling to a village in Fiji to help with medical screening and teaching, and to provide medical supplies, education materials, books, school supplies and a clean water system. We will learn about the health issues that are affecting remote villages in Fiji and hopefully help as much as we can!

Running a Half Marathon is no small undertaking and I am by no means a decent runner, so I want to make this event meaningful. By raising funds for the Fiji Village Project, my efforts as a mediocre runner will hopefully benefit the people of Fiji who have limited access to medical supplies, education and health services. My little education so far as a medical student has shown me how lucky we all are to have access to excellent health facilities, in both Dunedin and Australia, and its important to not take this for granted.

Why you should donate!

1. Great cause

2. Everyone has a right to health, regardless of where they live

3. There will be funny photos of me struggling to run 21ks that you can laugh at

Elinor Clark's involvement (page creator)

The Fiji Village Project is a non-profit student initiative, which aims to improve the health outcomes of those living in rural Fijian villages. It is conducted in December-January each year and involves medical and nursing students from New Zealand, Australia and Fiji travelling to villages located outside of Suva and completing medial screening, education and establishing a clean water supply.

Use of funds

The funds will go directly towards installing a water tank in the village and to provide medical supplies to the village.
