Help us protect the Fiordland National Park and the visitors to Lake Manapouri by supporting our Environment Court appeal.

Southland

Fiordland Sewerage Options Incorporated is a group who is attempting to offer a more financial and environmentally friendly solution to the Southland District Council (SDC) proposed Te Anau sewerage scheme. The group registered as an official non-profit organization: 18th Aug 2014.

We believe that the proposed solution from the Southland District Council to build and maintain a 19km pipe to pump sewage from Te Anau to the Manapouri Airport and disperse the sewage on land just above Lake Manapouri is a disaster waiting to happen and could endanger the health of residents and tourists alike. There is also a potential risk of losing the World Heritage listing for the park due to river and lake pollution. This could result in millions of dollars lost from tourism as well as Public Health concerns.

We have independent expert reports confirming that there are better financial and environmental solutions.

These solutions have been presented to the Southland District Council through mediation without success.

So now we are taking the legal path, and require your support to help fund the environment court.

Please see our website http://www.wastewater2.com/ and Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/fsoptions for more detailed information.

Please help us protect this beautiful region so you and your children can continue to enjoy it.

Every cent donated will go directly to the environment court appeal.

About us

To represent residents who have a common interest in the development of an appropriate, sustainable, safe sewerage scheme, and, in doing so, protect the environment, protect our health and protect the bedrock of our local economy - tourism.

URGENT message from Fiordland Sewage Options Inc. (FSO)  7 December 2016

KEPLER APPEAL

Due to the failure to reach an agreement through mediation, unfortunately, our next step is the Environment Court.

We are expecting Judge Borthwick to set the court date for May or June 2017.

To date, the appeal has cost FSO around $102,000 - which includes the $50,000 grant received from the Environmental Legal Assistance Fund.

If we do not receive at least $90,000 in donations within the next 3 weeks we will have no choice but to withdraw the appeal.

Please we need your help!

If you would like to discuss making a donation, you could ring: Alistair Paton-McDonald on 02 7221 9230

We need your financial assistance to continue the fight on your behalf. In a worst case scenario, we expect costs to continue with our appeal could amount to a further $150,000

We cannot continue with the preparation of expert witness statements, or continue with the appeal without your support. We believe that the Council will run with the Kepler proposal if our appeal is withdrawn.

The latest figures on the Kepler proposal are around

$25 million. If this proposal goes ahead it will result in huge increases in your rates.

We have repeatedly supplied details of alternatives to the Council that show better schemes could be implemented for approx $13 million.

Again, we would like to thank everyone who has donated so far.

Manapouri is way too beautiful to take the chance of ruining it with sewage!
