Be Part of My Legacy - Help Me to Become the First Woman of Māori Heritage to Attend Duke University!
Pakuranga, Auckland
Duke University is a top 10 university in the United States, located in Durham, North Carolina.
On April 1st, I was elated to learn that I had been accepted into Duke's Class of 2026. Of the 50,002 applications submitted to Duke University from across the globe, I was one of the 3,085 (in the 6%) of students that were admitted to attend in August this year.
Being accepted into one of the best universities in the world was a large piece in my legacy puzzle that I had been working toward for seven years. However, I realise that although having dreams is free, living those dreams is not.
Despite Duke awarding me with financial aid to assist in the cost of attending the university, there is still a significant cost ($60,000) that has to be covered for me to afford to attend my first year. Whilst this does seem out of reach, I broke it down to finding 600 people that are willing to invest $100 into my dream.
I understand the reality of being able to raise $60,000 in the given timeframe, but absolutely any amount put toward the goal amount would be greatly appreciated as it shortens the bridge of me being able to live my dream. I hope you are interested in helping me create history with being the first woman of Māori heritage to attend Duke University!
Finally, If you know any people or small businesses that I could reach out to for sponsorship or any fundraising ideas/opportunities over the next month - please let me know!

Thank you so much for your support! My first semester is covered with just under 20K to go! 20 July 2022
Kia Ora e te Whānau!
I'm completely blown away by the number of people who have reached out to me since the beginning of this fundraising page. Honestly - I'm in awe of the support I've received from each and every single one of you - and I can't thank you enough for the investment that you have made into my dream.
Just an update on what this has helped me with so far: I have been able to meet my first deadline of paying for my first semester tuition and board. I have also been able to cover all my costs for applying and validating my U.S. student visa so that I am eligible to study in the U.S. This was not an easy feat!
There are so many parts of my journey that I would love to share with you all so that you can see what you're investing in! I am planning on creating a YouTube channel to showcase my journey and the role that you have ultimately played in this journey. Through my youtube channel I will share my life-changing experience at Duke and everything that I had to go through to get to my dream university. I would also love to share the classes and extracurriculars that I'll be taking and giving you updates on how I'm doing in these classes!
I haven't yet reached my target, but I am well on my way and that is a big thanks to you! Reaching my 60K target would only cover my first year at Duke University - after my first year I will be looking at applying for scholarships to fund the last three of my years over in Duke. However, I'm approaching this one step at a time and one year at a time and I'm staying optimistic about it all!

Once again - thank you so much! I can't express how grateful I am to have a community that is backing my every step of the way and I can't wait to share with Duke University the strong and rich culture that we hold here in Aotearoa. You are a part of something that is going to take the world by storm and I'm so excited to show you the outcome of investing in the dreams of young people.
Ngā mihi,
J'adore Harris-Tavita
