Flight Centre Foundation and Cover-More are running the Auckland Marathon for Women's Refuge!

Auckland

The Flight Centre Foundation and Cover-More are running to raise money for Women’s Refuge, to help women and children that are exposed to family violence in New Zealand.

Why Women’s Refuge?

We're inspired by the amazing work of Women’s Refuge. They actively support women and children stuck in family violence by providing them with safety and helping women gain back their voice after the trauma they go through.

Not only does running and fundraising for Women’s Refuge go towards a much needed cause but it really hit home when our partner, Kim from Cover-More, told us her story of how Women’s Refuge helped her.

Check out Kim’s story below:

After Kim’s ex-husband left her with her 2 year old daughter, she eventually got into a new relationship that turned abusive. It first started off as emotionally abusive, taking away all her self-esteem and controlling who she was and what she did. Then it got physicaly abusive. By this point, she felt as if there was really no escape, to the point where she would even lie for him when people would ask about her bruises. The day Kim realised she had to gain the courage to get out is when she feared for her daughter's safety. One night, she ran away with her daughter to a friend’s house, but he went after them. Kim and her daughter were forced to hide under a bed, praying he wouldn’t find them. The cops had been called and once they arrived, that was when she first learned about Women’s Refuge. Her and her daughter were safe for the first time in a long time and they helped her no longer feel stuck and alone. Women’s Refuge gave Kim back her voice and helped her get back onto her feet to the great place she is at today.

We want to run for Women’s Refuge to help women that are in a similar situation, so they can have a safe haven and get back on their feet again like Kim did.

Please help us raise money and awareness for Women’s Refuge.

Each and every donation will be matched dollar-for-dollar by Flight Centre Foundation UP TO $10K! This means, that with your help, we could be donating a whopping $20K to Women's Refuge! So please help us reach this goal. Any donation, no matter how big or small, is much appreciated and helps make a difference for NZ families.

About us

The Flight Centre Foundation is the heart of the Flight Centre Travel Group’s corporate and social responsibility strategy. It provides company employees with a means to support nominated charities through workplace giving and fundraising initiatives.

All staff donations are matched dollar-for-dollar by the company, which also offers a paid program for employees who want to volunteer their time to community charities.

We work closely with a select group of charity partners on an ongoing basis, supporting key programs and projects to maximise our impact. In times of natural disaster and emergency, we help where we can with one-off appeals.

It's not all about financial support, with FCTG's people volunteering their talent and time at charities and community groups across the country.
