Friends of Glenmark Church

$16,453 of $100,000 goal
Given by 116 generous donors in 2 years

We are asking for your help to raise funds to meet the remaining costs for the restoration of this beautiful Church.

Canterbury

St Paul's Church is located in the Waipara and Omihi districts and is a local and historical landmark.

Built in 1906 by Mrs Townend as a memorial to her father Mr G H Moore and her husband Dr Townend, St Paul's stands in a beautiful setting above SH1 about 4kms north of Waipara township.

The Church is constructed of brick and Oamaru stone, tiled roof, wooden doors, stained glass and lead-light windows, Kauri panelling and Kauri pews with hand carving, carved lectern and a Kauri pulpit. There is a Norman & Beard pipe organ with 16 stops and two manuals, and a carillon of eight bells.

In early years the Church suffered earthquake damage to one wall and the 2010 and 2011 Canterbury earthquakes did considerable damage to this Heritage New Zealand Category 2 building. Even with insurance monies the restoration project will cost nearly $2m.

If you wish to help us in our project, you may do so by joining our Society, giving a donation or making a bequest.

Use of funds

Weatherproofing the shell, restoration of furniture and chattels, replacement of carpets and the eagle on the lectern.
