Please help my mum Bronwyn and our family make her leg amputation a breeze
Wellington
Update: Mum is booked to have the leg amputation surgery Friday morning. From here we pray shell fight and make it through the surgery with her conditions, for the following 3 to 4 days afterwards mum will be in a pretty critical state. Her body will either accept the change or it won't and will give away.
A few weeks ago my mum became very sick and was rushed to hospital after having high fevers and severe blisters in her left leg. When she got to the hospital she was diagnosed with cellulitis and from her body trying so hard to fight this infection she also developed sepsis. She was in ICU for about a week with medication artificially keeping her Blood Pressure normal while she fought this life-threatening organ failing condition. About a week later she recovered from the sepsis and was moved to a ward. Mum was then put on antibiotics to fight the cellulitis. A few weeks pass and mums infection has not improved and we now face another challenge ahead. Yesterday our family had a meeting with the doctors about mum's options. We were told the only options for her now is to either have a full left leg amputation or to live life with this infection leaving her with a painful leg and constantly having to change dressings. Either option will severely impact our family as my dad is unable to work due to his conditions and my sister is not working at the moment either due to helping mum. Either option will also leave mum unable to walk. The funds will be used to help my mum and our family transition into her new life whatever her end decision may be. She is strongly for the amputation as this gives her a 50/50 survival rate instead of 30 with keeping the leg as keeping her leg will eventually infect her whole body.

The funds will be used for things such as new daily living costs, house transitioning, financial support for both my dad and sister, hospital trips, and any other challenging situations that may fall along this path.
Mums on the way to discharge 10 July 2020
Update on mumma: the family had a meeting on thursday for mum. The meeting went well and we were told mum is now in the discharge process, however there was some unfortunate news. Because of how mum lost her leg her help is alot more limited compared to someone who would have lost it in an accident. One of the biggest things this affects is mums entitlement to a ramp at the house. At this point we would be needing to go through a community occupational therapist to get "approved" for a ramp and this could take anywhere up to over a year which means mum would be house bound for a year. This could also affect mum getting to hospital appointments and us having to pay for someone to get mum out of the house until such time as mum gets a ramp because if most of you know our house it's not exactly wheelchair friendly. To get this ramp sooner we need to go to a private occupational therapist and then get a quote from a builder. This is the preferred option as being house bound for over year would be a huge hassle for my family. Any contribution towards this would mean alot as this job will not be cheap. Thanks fam 💗💗💗
