Hey!! My name is Qona Christie and I am in the New Zealand Judo Team.
I have recently been selected to represent New Zealand at the 2018 Oceania Open and Oceania Junior Cup in November held in Perth. For those who don’t know I am completely self-funded which makes travelling and training overseas very hard so any contribution would be greatly appreciated.
I have been doing Judo for the past 12 years. I aim to represent New Zealand at the Commonwealth and Olympic Games (2022 & 2024).
This year has been a big year for me so far. Following the 4 months I spent training in Hungary at the Olympic Training Centre in 2017 I made my first Judo trip to Japan. I went to Japan for 3 weeks of training in preparation for the 2018 Oceania Judo Championships in New Caledonia where I became champion in the U57kg Junior and Senior division. I have recently returned from Asia where I competed in two Junior Asian Cups in Hong Kong and Macau. I managed to come away with a silver medal in the Junior Asian Cup in Macau in the U57kg division.
Following this Asian Tour I competed in the Auckland International tournament coming away with a gold in Junior u57kg and silver in Senior u57kg as well as the North Island Championships in Wellington where I picked up a gold in both the Junior and Senior U57kg divisions.
Most recently I competed in the Sydney International Open. I managed to get Gold in Junior U57kg and Silver in Senior U57kg division.
Overview of some results from 2018..
-Oceania Junior and Senior U57kg Champion
-Macau Junior Asian Cup Silver Medallist
-Auckland International Junior U57kg Gold and Senior U57kg Silver
-North Island Junior and Senior U57kg Champion
-Sydney International Junior U57kg Gold and Senior U57kg Silver
