Help me make more films that matter by supporting my trip to Jackson Hole Science Media Awards in Boston!
Otago
My dream is to inspire people and promote change through filmmaking.
While studying at Otago University, I wanted to raise awareness about the concerning global decline of bees around the world. Fortunately, I met three amazing people protecting New Zealand's honey bees from a deadly disease ... with detector dogs.
BUT some scientists disputed the effectiveness of these dogs. I decided to make a documentary to find out more.
Now, over a year after the films release, detector dogs are helping beekeepers all across the country and requests are pouring in for more dogs to be trained for bee disease surveillance!
More recently, my film "A Million Dollar Nose", was nominated Best Newcomer at the Jackson Hole Science Media Awards - a prestigious film festival conference at the end of September in Boston! This event is a great opportunity for me to share my film and connect with content creators from around the world who can help me make more films that matter.
With just a few weeks until the conference, time is short and I need your help to get me to Boston!
All donations will be used to help pay for flights and conference fees.
Boston Update 5 October 2018
Hello generous friends and kind donors,
I am writing to you all from the United States after an amazing week in Boston!
I sadly did not win the award in my category but being nominated is still such a huge honour! Attending the SMASH event was also so valuable. I met so many incredible film makers and scientists who blew me away with their talents. I met a neuroscientist working on neural implants to help patients with Parkinson’s, a filmmaker experimenting with VR as an education tool and a NASA astronaut!
So thank you to all who donated - your support has inspired me and helped me form amazing connections with new mentors and future collaborators.
