Chronic illness has limited Shannon's world. A mobility scooter or electric wheelchair would give her more freedom and independence.
Auckland
Shannon was diagnosed with ME/CFS and Fibromyalgia five years ago. The effect on her life has been huge - where once she was a typical young adult: studying towards being a fashion designer, going out with friends, walking the dog, going shopping, and so much more; now she has days when even getting out of bed is unachievable. And on the "good" days, when she has just the smallest amount of energy available to her, she has to budget her use of that energy carefully. A short trip to the mall can leave her exhausted for a couple of days.
A mobility scooter or electric wheelchair would open Shannon's world enormously. She could take herself down to the local shops, or come for a dog walk with me. She could get around the local mall. She could have back at least some of the freedom and independence that has been missing from her life for the last few years.
I am Shannon's mum, and I am so very proud of her. She has such great spirit, and so much potential, and It breaks my heart to see how limited her life is now because of her chronic illnesses.
The goal of the fundraising is to get Shannon a mobility scooter. Any funds remaining after that will go towards buying any accessories she might need for the scooter, and then towards other items that will help with her mobility and independence.
Meet Bumble 26 March 2018
Thank you everybody who has donated so far, I can't tell you how much this means to Shannon. And look what you've helped achieve - I would like to introduce Bumble. Isn't he a cutie? We got him off TradeMe, his previous owners had named him after Bumblebee from Transformers, and the name stuck. Bumble is a fantastic wee scooter, and he is going to give Shannon so much freedom. And, he was such a good deal that we also have our sights set on a basic electric wheelchair. Plus obviously Bumble needs some accessories - specifically a sunshade for Shannon's sunburn-prone skin!
Again, thank you all so very much. We love you!
