Fundraising to achieve proper diagnosis for Addison and Conor so they can lead better supported lives.
West Coast
Hi I'm Janine I am a solo mum of 3. From the West Coast. All 3 are special needs. One is diagnosed, the other two are not. This page is about fundraising to get Addison and Conor the proper testing they need to be able to get the right help and support
Conor we have been told is asd, adhd, ocd, odd. Conor needs constant attention. He's violent, you can't leave lighters etc anywhere near him. Hes got sensory issues and he harms me and other people. Taking him out requires 2 adults. He smears poo on toilet walls and he's hard to shower. We also have issues with him at school fighting and at other events. On the brighter side he loves swimming, miniball, basketball and bmx riding.
Addison has anxiety issues so bad she screams alot, won't leave your side and is stuck with you like glue. She hates loud noises. She's always asking questions. She's got sensory issues. So we have been told she could be high functioning autism. She loves swimming and dancing.
Currently I receive not help and support with these issues. I have tried the public system. We keep getting thrown from life links to camhs and back again neither want to help us as one says the children should be under camhs the other says no lifelinks. Lifelinks won't help us unless the children have a definite autistic diagnosis. To do this we have to travel off the West Coast and pay around $1500 per child for testing plus travel and accommodation to get a proper diagnosis. Breannas medical team (her phyc) saw both Conor and Addison while on a home visit in January. They strongly suggested Conor was the above as well as we have already taken him to Mckenzie Seabrook in chch at a substantial cost in an endeavour to get him a diagnosis.
What would a proper diagnosis achieve? It would unlock the help and support I badly need to raise these children. For an example Conor attacked another child at a Christmas party yesterday it took two of us to try and calm him down. As well as a couple of hours constantly following him around. Which meant the other two children didn't get the support they needed at the event. It would hopefully unlock individualised funding so I can get a support worker to help shower Conor and to come on outings with us. Enable us to be able to go out as a family.
It would enable the chance for Addison to get the time out from the other children she badly needs. As well as her needs met when on outings.
Children's mother.
Going to a private specialist to get a proper diagnosis.
Cost is around $3000 for the 2 children plus travel and accommodation to Christchurch.
If we exceed this goal the remaining money would be spent on support workers to help enable us to go on outings.
