’Give a Kid a Blanket’ has, since 2015, gathered blankets and other winter warmers for children and families in need
Auckland
‘Give a Kid a Blanket’ is a community activated art action lead by artists Bernie Harfleet and Donna Turtle Sarten, and run across the greater Auckland area.
Each Winter since 2015, ’Give a Kid a Blanket’ has gathered blankets and other winter warmers, which are given to children and families in need through social workers, public health nurses and other community workers.
For those who receive the donations, the idea is that they not only feel warmer but importantly, valued by the wider community.
While the projects results in growing numbers being helped to be warmer, it’s focus is on the simple act of kindness that so many can make and how collectively as a community we can make a difference.
Over the last three winters we have given out 14,500 blankets plus other warm items. This year we are doing it again, but as the collection has grown each year so have the costs of running it. This year in order to ‘Give a Kid a Blanket’, we are hoping people will ‘Give a Little’ too...
I am a volunteer with this fantastic cause
Money raised would be used to cover costs such as the lease of premises, the lease of a van, fuel, laundry costs, bags & stationary items. After these costs are met we would buy new pillows, blankets etc. Any surplus would go towards next year's costs.
Not long now... 29 May 2018
Not long now till it’s blanket season!
Our collectors will be receiving donations from this coming Friday (1 June).
The Met service is predicting night temperatures of 4 degrees this week which is a good reminder why this project is so important.
