Brenda has terminal cancer and is a single mother. She wants to have as good a quality of life as she can with her girls.
Bay of Plenty
Brenda is an amazing Mum to three beautiful girls and friend to many. Late last year she got the news that she had a tumor in her right lung. This year she had half of the lung with the tumor removed and underwent a four month course of chemotherapy. Doctors felt confident she would be cancer free. A few months later Brenda lost some feeling and use of her right hand. After lots of testing and imaging doctors finally discovered a large tumor on the right side of her neck, it reaches down to her right shoulder and is now causing immense pain. A few days later they also told her it is going to be terminal.
Brenda is going to receive radiation to try to shrink the tumor and has been offered a drug treatment that gives excellent quality of life and extension of life in terminal patients. The treatment is called Keytruda. This treatment is not funded by the health system for this type of cancer and Brenda has been a teacher aide helping special needs students for much of her life - a low paying but highly valued job.
We want to give Brenda a fighting chance to have as long as she can and as best quality of life as she can have to spend with her daughters aged 23, 21 and 9 years of age..
For the best results, Brenda needs to start her treatment as soon as possible so we really appreciate any amount you can give to help fund this urgent appeal.
If for some reason we cannot get enough for the treatment or have excess, any money raised will be used to do much needed maintenance work to the family home which, will be left for the girls to live in and raise their younger sister.
Edit 31st October 2019: Brenda will not be getting the treatment as the cancer has advanced too far now. The family thank you all for your generosity and wish to use the funds for the house to make her last days more comfortable and for their continued living after she passes.
