As a challenge I am growing my hair for a year to obtain a man bun and at the same time will raise money for the Huntingtons Association
Canterbury
As many of you will know I shaved my hair last ANZAC Day with the view to growing it for one year & then styling in into a classy looking man bun.
This was all planned with a work colleague at last year’s ChCh beef festival. The two of us put up $50 & decided to make this a fund raiser for the Christchurch Huntington Association. J.K set up a Facebook page at that time called “Hair for a Year”.
I have another very good mate Julian who has supported me by also growing his hair for the same period (& I think he may look slightly more rugged). Anyway ANZAC day 2017 is drawing near & I would like to lose the hair & ask for support for the cause.
Huntingtons Disease (H.D) is a heredity, degenerative, neurological disorder for which there is currently no cure. A child of a parent that carries the H.D gene has a 50:50 chance of developing the disease themselves. The average age of onset is 30-40 years old & those affected may live ~15-20 years after becoming symptomatic. This is very much dependant on genetic & environmental factors & varies markedly between individuals. H.D affects about 1:10,000 New Zealanders.
The money collected will be donated to the local Christchurch H.D association which in turn uses the funds to directly help struggling families on a very basic level such as buying fire wood, whiteware & sometimes financial support for life’s basic necessities with the children’s welfare being a key focus.
