Helping out the family of Hamish Rieger

Bay of Plenty

Hamish Rieger, much-loved member of the Mount Maunganui Lifeguard Service, water polo gun, event guard extraordinaire and one of the loveliest 17-year-olds you'd ever wish to meet, died tragically when swept off the rocks near his beloved home beach. The surf club has been inundated with offers of support, with many of you wanting to help financially. All proceeds will go to Greg and Donna and their beautiful clan, so they can put aside financial considerations and concentrate on grieving and healing.

Mount Maunganui Lifeguard Service's involvement (page creator)

The Mount Maunganui Lifeguard Service is leading this fundraising cause, wanting to give something back to the extraordinary Rieger family who've done so much for our club. Any money raised will pale in comparison to the massive outpouring of aroha in their direction.

About us

Mount Maunganui Lifeguard service has been providing volunteer lifeguard patrols on Main Beach Mount Maunganui and surrounds since 1929. The club also has thriving surfsports and junior (Nippers) programmes dedicated to developing fitter faster lifeguards and also the lifeguards of the future. Surflifesaving clubs do not receive direct funding from either central or local government and so rely heavily on the donations of those who care about keeping our coastline safe.
