Hugs for Hazel
Raising funds to support the Gracious 13 year old Hazel Benson and her family to kick cancers butt!

Hazel and her family received the devasting news that Hazel has a tumour in her hip that needs immediate treatment. Hazel and her Mum are currently in Starship receiving the best possible care from the awesome medical team there. Now we can play our part and help support this amazingly giving family by giving back to them.
A beautiful family unit of 6 open up their home and foster children in need providing them with love, comfort and a safe haven in times of desperation. Dad Kelsey humbly receiving a Tairawhiti Men of the Year Award in 2015 for his services as a CYF Carer. Mum Alicia, a busy Mum of 4 also working as a home based childminder caring for an extra 4 preschoolers in her home while their parents work.
The family have a houseful with 16 year old German exchange student Caleb becoming 'part of the furniture'.
These funds will help relieve the financial burden that comes with being away from home and not being able to work. With both parents being self employed and having to travel from Gisborne to Auckland to be with Hazel costs soon mount up. The money will go towards helping with travel, mortgage, household bills and any other costs incurred. Lets band together and embrace this family as they do in our community.

I am a friend of the family and also a work colleague of Alicia's. I am wanting to help relieve a small amount of the stress created during Hazel's journey back to health and full strength.

Firstly thank you to each and everyone one of you who have very generously gifted us money. Money is a strange thing, to accept if from others seems very unnatural, but as two self employed parents it will truly help us at this time. We love you all and are very humbled by the amount of people who care.
Today Hazel was told she has Ewing Sarcoma tumor on her hip. Hazel still faces a few more tests but we have a plan forward. Hazel faces around 9 months of treatment. Chemo for a few rounds then an operation to remove the tumor and then more rounds of chemo. From current scans and tests it looks like the cancer hasn't spread, Friday she has a PET scan to confirm this.
The Dr said the aim of treatment is for cure, so we are feeling confident this will happen and Hazel will be cancer free again.
